In August of 2019, Mactrans was officially named as a SmartWay partner, further ensuring our provision of the highest standard of care within the 3PL industry. Recognizing the critical role which the freight transportation sector plays in connecting consumers with the goods they need from around the world, SmartWay has set out to encourage best practices across freight supply chains.
The transportation of goods on a global scale, after all, is often a major use of energy with energy consumption across Canada’s freight sector rising 75% since 1990. With this in mind, SmartWay works with carries and shippers to reduce fuel consumption, ensure operations remain environmentally conscious, and improve their overall performance.
The SmartWay program works alongside partners and affiliates to track, calculate and compare fuel consumption and greenhouse gas emissions (GHG) with the shared understanding that “you can’t manage what you can’t measure”. Already, our company has been able to benchmark operations and identify key performance metrics, while tracking fuel consumption and reducing the emission of greenhouse gas (GHG). Moreover, using year over year efficiencies to gain a more comprehensive view of our carbon footprint, Mactrans will be able to establish improved company standards and strategic best practices that will carry our business well into the future.
Although Mactrans’ services span across North America, our head office is located in Toronto, Ontario and our company is proudly Canadian. Currently, Canada is one of many countries developing a Global Green Freight Action Plan under the Climate and Clean Air Coalition (CCAC) and the United Nations Environment Program. We understand, alongside so many other Canadian businesses, that environmental performance represents a critical business metric.
